Enhancing Rural Transformation through Community Engagement in Burora Sub-County, Kagadi District

Abstract

This report describes the internship experience aimed at enhancing rural transformation through community action planningand participatory action research over the period of four months, from 1st February and ended on 20th May, 2025. The internship was in line with four objectives; “1. ARU Intern has capacity to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of systems and structures in service delivery in Burora Sub County. 2. ARU Intern as a Potential Epicenter Manager can demonstrate an understanding of the role of Epicenter Strategy in the implementation of the parish development model and realization of Uganda Vision 2040. 3. ARU Intern has the capacity to conduct Community Action Planning (CAP) as a Democratic Bottom Up process to cause Rural Transformation. 4. ARU Intern has the capacity to conduct PAR and develop plans to create change in the community.” Chapter two reveals relevant literature including Sustainable Development Goals, Africa Agenda and Uganda Vision 2040. Methods used included; document review and observation. The internship provided hands-on experience through practical involvement in key government initiatives, particularly the PDM, offered valuable exposure to participatory planning, and rural innovation. Community sessions were conducted on the Visionary Approach, CAP, and appropriate technologies such as soap-making, mushroom cultivation, and energy-saving stoves. Trainings also empowered community members to recognize that they are key to development. In conclusion, the internship met all objectives and contributed to personal growth and community development. The Intern recommend continued field engagement and increased community participation in planning and implementation.
